![]() I am a visiting research fellow at the IDEAS Lab at the University of Sussex. Currently I am a researcher at the Serious Games Institute, University of Coventry. Previously, I was a Research Fellow at the London Knowledge Lab, the Institute of Education, University of London. I completed my doctorate in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at Sussex University, in September 2007. My interest is in designing and evaluating educational technology that adapts sensitively to affective and cognitive differences among students. I study how cognitive and motivational differences impact students' behaviour with educational technology and how in turn technology impacts students' learning. To that end I use techniques from Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Education and Psychology.
The topic of my Doctorate dissertation is in the area of motivation in learning environments. To analyse the degree of effectiveness of adaptive motivational scaffolding I used modelling techniques to develop motivational models that detect various degrees of motivation. These models are used as rationale to adapt the reaction of the technology [more]. Other research that I have conducted includes the scoping of a technology-based learning environment to facilitate verbal and non-verbal communication in children with Asperger's disorder [more] and the definition of guidelines for Web2 tools to support lecturers in higher education. I am co-editor of the Special Issue on Affect in Education to appear in 2008 at the International Journal of Learning Technology (IJLT) and reviewer of Journal of Computer Assisted Learning (JCAL). |
