The VAST system is an experimental timetabling application. By taking part in the competition you are helping us to gather data on how real people use the system which will be used for my DPhil research. We are offering the following prizes to the people who create the three best solutions:
- First Prize £70
- Second Prize: £30
- Third Prize: £10

Instructions
The scenario for this competition is that you have been asked to create an Exam Timetable for a university using the VAST system. Your goal is to create a feasible timetable with as few problems as possible, for each problem your solution is given a penalty; you should try to minimise these penalty costs. This problem is very difficult to solve and it probably isn't possible to create a perfect solution.
You can begin straight away by following the instructions below, each time you log into/out of the system all your work is saved automatically so you can leave VAST then come back to improve your solution at any time.
