Motivation

R. Dadd. The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke. Painted in Bethlam Psychiatric Hospital. 1855-1864.

I recently discovered my family tree from 1658, starting from Don Michael De Fonseka who was the chief officer of the state and helped capture Jaffna. The begining of the family tree is available here. I am related to James Fretz De Fonseka, whose family tree continues here.

I am a post-doctoral researcher in theoretical biology working on models of RNA replication, cell signalling networks, the evolution of metabolism, chemical computation, and neural networks. My first degree was in Medicine at Wadham College, Oxford. I did the EASY (Evolutionary and Adaptive Systems) course at Sussex, followed by a DPhil on "The Evolution of the Chemoton".

I work on the origins of life, RNA ribozyme networks as grammar generators, learning and cognition in bacteria, detecting fuzzy individuals in ecosystems (e.g. networks of species, chemicals and companies), and the maximization of entropy production by the biosphere.
