Tree and yellow bird is coat of arms of Freyung, the town I was born in. The former stands for the (clearing of the) forests in that area (suffix: ung), the latter represent the liberation from tax (unfortunately only at that times) in order to attract new citizens to move to the rough forest (prefix frey, ie. free [of tax]).
Living there for almost 20 years coins you and so people of the Bavarian Forest are special to the rest of Germany, maybe a bit like the Scots for the U.K.. Due to its location it is called the gate to the Bavarian Forest and it is inhabited by approximately 6000 people being the "capital" (county) of the district Freyung-Grafenau.
