Project title: Mapping Expertise

Peter Cheng, Department of Informatics, University of Sussex

This DPhil studentship will explore the nature of expertise in relation to map comprehension and production, with a primary focus on the structure of the knowledge possessed by expert map users in contrast novices. The student will be supervised by Professor Peter Cheng and will be a member of the Representational Systems Laboratory.

The project is in conjunction with the Ordinance Survey and the student will work closely with experts from the Ordinance Survey.

Applicants should have, or soon obtain, at least a 2:1 degree in a relevant subject, such as cognitive science, psychology, artificial intelligence, ergonomics or geography.
