Members of the NLCL group continue to be active in ACL special interest groups: Diana McCarthy is President of SIGLEX, and John Carroll is Secretary of SIGPARSE.

May 2007

 

A substantial UK HEFCE SRIF award jointly to the NLCL group and the Informatics RepCog group is being used to facilitate new research activities. For NLP research this includes an 80-cpu core compute cluster for text mining in support of intelligent language-based human interfaces. Jointly the two groups are using the funds to leverage collaborative work on learner centred approaches to ubiquitous computing home environments, including the creation of a real ubiquitous computing environment for their empirical studies with real users.
