In recent years it has become common to compare the various positions in the debate about the ontology of colour with those in the mind-body problem. None have done so more extensively than Alex Byrne in his ‘Colour and the Mind-Body Problem’ (2006)....
Each seminar is preceded by a brief meeting of the PAICS Research Group. If you arrive early, please enter quietly.
For more information or to reserve a speaking slot, contact the seminar organizer Paul Loader. Diverse participation is encouraged, as shown by the membership, which is drawn departments and schools across the university, including faculty, research fellows, DPhil students, and masters students.

"We needed a name and deliberately didn't want to make it boring, like 'The Philosophy of AI and Cognitive Science Research Group Work in Progress Seminar'. We wanted it to help forge a common approach, without being too restrictive. We noticed that a lot of people's work had 'e-' words in them: 'evolutionary', 'embodied', 'experiential', 'externalist'.... As for 'intentionality', we wanted something that would circumscribe all these things we're interested in, and systems that exhibit "aboutness" seemed a good take on this. But why did we really choose that name? Come and buy us a drink, and we'll tell you."
