The
chromarium eTable consists of a computer, back projected horizontal
display, a Mimio (display input device) and digital I/O card.
The Chromarium eTable essentially provides a horizontal display
surface that children can collaborate about. A software interface
created in Macromedia Director is used to allow children to
actuate physical responses to digital actions.
Usage
Scenario:
Two
applications were run on the eTable to investigate children's
interactions between the real and digital worlds. In the first,
an off the shelf colour mixing software package was used where
the children could utilise the Mimio's pens (adapted to look
like paint brushes) to add and subtract colour. The second
application used Macromedia director to control a toy windmill
when certain digital actions were carried out.
Applications
supported by the device:
Table
as a Physical / Digital boundary metaphor
Table as a collaborative input device
