Research Interests:

Current Research Focus

Understanding the mechanisms that result in oscillatory activity within the human brain and investigating the emergence and functional relevance of synchrony between spatially separated and disparate neural structures, with special focus on brain development.

Other Topics of Interest

  • Evolving large-scale neural systems - why would we want to do this and how do we achieve this practically?
  • Exploiting the rich 'dynamic potential' of physical systems using evolutionary methodologies, with particular emphasis of liquid/echo state machines.
  • Learning and memory in brain-body-environmental systems, flexible learning systems.
  • Commercial and engineering applications of evolutionary robotic techniques.
  • Brain-machine interfaces.
