Research Interests
My primary research interests centre on the properties and functions of adaptation in the nervous system.
Studying the changes that occur in neural circuits during adaptation to different environments (at both short and evolutionary timescales) can give us insight into the computational 'problems' that an animal is trying to solve. This often leads to a deeper understanding of the function and 'design priniciples' of animal's sensory systems and behaviour.
My research uses a close combination of experimental work and computational modelling. I am currently working in the Sussex Insect Navigation Group, using behavioural methods to study how ants use visual landmarks to guide navigation.
