Research Interests
My general interests concern the interactions between an agent and its environment, and, more specifically, the use of multi-modal information during navigation.
My current behavioural studies take place in the Sussex Insect Navigation Group and are concerned with the use of visual landmarks for navigation by ants. In the Sussex Insect Navigation Group we are currently interested in the binding of visual features within memories, the interaction between separate portions of an insect's foraging route and the interaction between different place memories. These issues are all relevant to the wider research areas of situated cognition, active vision and behavioural robotics. Indeed, the study of insect navigation has, in the past, proved to be a rich source of inspiration for the engineering of robot navigation models. I believe that continuing this relationship will prove to be fruitful for both biologists and engineers.
