Research Interests

Educated in mathematics at the University of Warwick and having taken a DPhil at the Department of Zoology in Oxford University, my research concerns using ideas from the study of animal behaviour to aid the design of robot control systems - particularly those that are, like animals, autonomous and self-sufficient. In addition to the engineering aspects, such work allows hypotheses about the mechanisms governing biological behaviour to be tested. Current concerns include: categorisation, associative theory, cognition, action selection and visually guided behaviour.
