Research Interests
The current focus of my research is developing evolved neural network controllers for tethered wing control.
I am academic collaborator on control systems for the KiteGen project, (see www.kitegen.eu) our current target is to investigate the abilities of bio-inspired controllers to self-optimise kite flight trajectories for maximal energy recovery from low to mid tropospheric winds. I am currently testing controllers in simulation and also working with Bill Bigge of the CCNR to build a robotic controller for real-world testing.
My other key interests are:
- biologically plausible morphological development
- activity dependent development
- glial neuromodulation
- realistic (Izhikevich) spiking networks with STDP
and in investigating these processes/systems within the evolutionary robotics paradigm.
