The research interests of the Bioinformatics and Machine Learning group include Computational Neuroscience, Machine Learning and Bioinformatics. In Computational Neuroscience, our goal is to use mathematic models to elucidate the mechanisms of brain functions, and as by-product, to develop brain-style computational algorithms. In Machine Learning, our interest covers both theory and applications. We aim to develop novel and efficient computational algorithims, from the viewpoint of statistical learning theory or borrowing ideas from biology. In Bioinformatics, our interest is to apply statistical and machine learning methods to solve real-world problems, which currently include medical and genome microarray data analysis. The lab was set up in 2002, and currently has three faculty members and a various number of PhD students and Research Fellows. We have active collaborations with research groups in the field all over around the world. |
