Morning — 9.30

Conference Centre, Level 3 Bramber House — by invitation only

The morning programme will include presentations on: Informatics courses and industrially-relevant skills; recruiting Sussex graduates; opportunities for applied research and consultancy; intellectual property and commercialisation; and schemes funding student and graduate placements. There will be a buffet lunch giving an opportunity to network with members of faculty.

Afternoon — 13.00 onwards

Level 1 Bramber House — open to all

Exhibition with interactive presentations of current research, and DPhil students' poster display. The following groups will be represented:

Bioinformatics and Machine Learning: neural computation; theory, applications of machine learning

Computer Vision: interpretation of images, image sequences

Evolutionary and Adaptive Systems: computational biology; evolutionary and adaptive technology; insect, robot navigation; creative systems

Foundations of Computation: understanding, specifying, verifying behaviour of programs; methods, associated software tools

IDEAs Lab: design of interactive learning environments; effective underpinning pedagogical frameworks

Interact Lab: relationships between people and technologies; ubiquitous, tangible, collaborative computing

Natural Language Processing: computer processing of human language; basic technologies, applications

Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science: conceptual foundations of computational/robotic models, explanations of mind

Representation and Cognition: cognitive theories; representation in reasoning, problem solving, learning

Software Systems: compilers for embedded systems; user-centred networking; programming languages for pervasive computing

Space Science Centre: space weather monitoring instruments; data interpretation, science exploitation

Centre for VLSI and Computer Graphics: software systems for graphics, virtual/augmented reality, virtual prototyping, simulation

The exhibition will conclude at 15.30 with a talk and award of the best DPhil poster prize by Prof Alasdair Smith, Vice Chancellor of the University of Sussex.
