Open Street Map

Friday 23 February 2007 (week 7)

OpenStreetMap (http://www.openstreetmap.org/) is a collaborative project to create open and free global maps using data from portable GPS devices. We started because most maps you think of as free actually have legal or technical restrictions on their use, holding back people from using them in creative, productive or unexpected ways. Along the way we've developed sophisticated systems for collaborative mapping, and pushed the boundaries of cartography in the community.

For this talk, I'll focus on the usability issues in the mapping process, our workshops and education, and the activity here in Brighton.
