A lot of what you do as a tutor has to do with managing interactions
between groups of students in seminars and tutorials, and is
relatively independent of the particular academic content of the
course involved. Unlike a lecture, where one person speaks to a large
group who mainly listen and take notes, you want the group to work
together to explore issues and advance their understanding. The
following subsections give some suggestions for getting groups
working: avoiding getting forced into the role of lecturing leader on
whom all students silently fixate; instead using students' input and
interactions to facilitate their learning of course material and
transferable skills.
